Childbirth Class
This class is for first-time mothers who are pregnant. It teaches you how to manage pain during labor, as well as provides information about parenting before the baby arrives. During your childbirth class, you’ll learn things like what to expect during labor, coping techniques for pain management as well as pain management options. You’ll likely get to watch an actual birthing video. You’ll also learn about a cesarean delivery, also known as a c-section. Even if you don’t plan to have a c-section, make sure you pay attention because you never know what will happen when the time comes to give birth.
This class is a great way to prepare yourself mentally and physically for childbirth. It can be intimidating, but when you have the knowledge and experience to know what’s happening, it can make parenting so much easier.

I HIGHLY recommend this online prenatal class! Hilary is an awesome instructor who also happens to be a labor and delivery nurse with over 20 years of experience in the delivery room. In just a few hours from the comfort of your own home, she will help you feel MORE PREPARED to give birth!
Carrying Baby Classes
Another parenting class that is great for first-time parents is carrying baby classes. These classes teach new moms how to carry their babies in different positions so it will be easier when they’re out and about. You’ll also learn the most common parenting positions, like a back carry or front carry, so you don’t always have to hold your baby in your arms.
Breastfeeding Classes
Even if you don’t plan on breastfeeding once your child arrives, it’s important to take nursing classes before they arrive. You’ll learn how to breastfeed on the go in different positions, what items are necessary when it comes time to feed your baby, and more!
Depending on your learning style, there are two breastfeeding classes I recommend. The first is an online breastfeeding class from Milkology. You’ll learn all the basics of breastfeeding online in the comfort of your own space. I recommend you check out her 5-day FREE breastfeeding course to see if her courses are the right fit for you!
The second breastfeeding course for new moms that I recommend is from Lactation Link. This is a completely online breastfeeding course as well. They also have a FREE 6-day breastfeeding course. I recommend you take both free courses and decide which is the right breastfeeding course for you!
Baby Sign Language
This may seem unnecessary now, but once your baby is here, you’ll quickly notice doing anything can be a challenge. The earlier you learn how, the better because it will give your child an intuitive understanding of what they want before they’re even old enough to speak! We didn’t use a ton of sign language with our kids, but there were some basics that made communication before speech so much easier.
Infant Massage Class
This class will teach you how to massage your baby, which is a great way of bonding with them and teaching them what it feels like when someone touches their body. It also teaches parenting techniques such as swaddling or putting them on their back for playtime. Plus, you’ll learn parenting tips that will come in handy when you’re out of the house and need to put your baby down for a nap.
When it comes to parenting, there’s no such thing as being too prepared! That’s why you should take as many of these baby classes for first-time parents as you can before your baby arrives. They’ll give you the knowledge and experience that will make childbirth and parenting so much easier. You won’t regret taking them because they’re a great investment in your future with your newborn child. Best of luck to you and your new family!
