Best Books on Audible for Homeschooling

Sometimes in the busyness of life, it’s helpful to slow down and pour back into our own cups as moms.

When you’re a homeschooling mom, the days can fly by so quickly, yet you can find yourself not in love with the day-to-day grind.

That’s OK. Some seasons of mothering and homeschooling can be harder than others.

Today, I want to send you some encouragement by sharing some of my most loved and treasured books for homeschooling parents.

Each of these books has a special place in my heart because they have picked me up when I’ve felt lost and helped me get back on the best homeschooling path for my family. Some I have even read multiple times.

Audible is a great place to snag a few books, but don’t be afraid of the paper copies. Sometimes, there is power in holding a book in your hands and highlighting the most meaningful parts.

Homeschooling Books on Audible for Parents

Teaching from Rest

This is one of the books I benefit from every year. Teaching from Rest offers new advice and perspective for the challenges I face every year.

If you’re looking for permission to not let your curriculum guide your day, but rather allow your kids and their natural desire to learn and explore to be the catalyst for their learning, this is a great book for you.

It is a stark reminder that our job as parents and teachers is to guide them to the truth, help them to find it, and guide them in their learning. We are providers of opportunities. We are to trust that God will guide them the rest of the way.

I, for one, struggle with trying to make sure I am checking a list. And if that is what works for you, that’s amazing. But I found myself more worried about the checklist than being concerned with how my kids were becoming frustrated and whether or not they were actually enjoying learning.

If you find any of this relatable, this book will nourish your soul!

The Read-Aloud Family

You know how sometimes you read or listen to a book and it just clicks. This was one of those books for me. The Read-Aloud Family reminded me that sometimes learning truly can be as simple as reading books together. Engaging your children in conversation regarding the books you read is an incredible gift and teaching tool.

If you aren’t familiar with the idea of read-aloud, it’s just that. Reading a book aloud for your children to listen.

Now, my public school teaching mentality had it in my head that it meant all of my kids needed to listen intently because I was reading, and the only way they could possibly be paying attention was if they were staring right at me.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. Sometimes kids actually listen better and comprehend more when they are playing or working on something that involves their hands. And that’s OK.

Even once your kids are able to read on their own, there are great benefits to continuing to read out loud to your kids.

Or, maybe you enjoy reading to your kids, but you’re not sure where to begin after the basic board books. Sarah offers age-appropriate book lists to help you with that as well.

Be encouraged that reading is one of the most powerful ways your kids can learn.

Brave Learner

Homeschooling is an amazing gift. But sometimes, as parents, we second-guess ourselves and question every decision we make. Every day. Brave Learner offers a fresh perspective when your homeschool starts to feel stale.

I think that as homeschool parents, we all want our kids to develop a natural love for learning. We think that if we just offer them enough experiences, books, activites, etc, that naturally they’ll learn to love learning.

But what happens when that isn’t the case?

If you need a book that can make you laugh while you learn to help your kids love learning, this is a great place to start. In this book, you’ll discover the 12 Super Powers of Learning and how to use each one with your kids. And, fun fact, you’ll be encouraged to learn right alongside your kids.

Fun fact- chances are you actually don’t remember everything you learned in school, and I, for one, have loved learning and re-learning alongside my kids. It is an amazing way to spend time and bond with your kids.

Homeschool Bravely

Many of our households don’t include just children who are school-age. We have babies and toddlers running around, adding to our chaos. If you’re a person of faith, you know the importance of trusting God in the process and believing that He has equipped you for the calling to homeschool your children. Homeschool Bravely is an amazing resource when your homeschool mentality bucket needs a refill.

Sometimes we need someone to tell us it’s OK to not get things right all the time. We need to know that we aren’t messing our kids up by missing a week of lessons when our kids were sick.

Being brave amid the noise of the world can be really hard. So much of what we are told are lies. God designed us and entrusted us with these blessings. He has trusted us to love and nurture the children He gave us. But we have to be brave enough to trust His plan for us as their parents and teachers.

If you find yourself needing practical tips for some of the everyday struggles you’re facing, you will find companionship here. You will feel like someone hears you and wants to offer help instead of criticism.

The Call of the Wild + Free

If you’re new to homeschooling, I highly recommend you take time to pull yourself out of the public school mindset. This is known as de-schooling yourself. If you wonder what “school” could look like, having your children read quality literature, enjoy nature, and pursue their interests, you will greatly benefit from The Call of the Wild + Free!

Everything about this book resonates with me. I find myself in so many places in the book often. When I find myself trying to solve all the world’s problems for my kids. When I feel like they’ve lost their desire to succeed. Times when I question if I even have a homeschool “style”.

Maybe you’ve been there too. When my world starts spinning, and I start spiraling, this is one of the books I go to.

I appreciate that everything is broken down into tangible, manageable, easy to understand ideas. It is an easy go-to when I feel like maybe I’m not the right person for them. Of course, I know that’s not true, but sometimes, I feel inadequate- even as a licensed school teacher. It happens.

If you’re looking for an overall audiobook for homeschooling parents on Audible, you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re new to homeschooling, I highly encourage you to start with this book. Homegrown is a book that can walk you through many of the questions you’re currently fighting through.

Why did you choose to homeschool? How did you choose your homeschool style? How will you socialize your kids? All of these are questions you’ll likely be asked by your skeptics, and figuring out answers now will be so helpful.

Yes, you may be the primary person guiding your kids’ learning, but how can you incorporate other people of influence into your daily homeschool?

I also appreciate that this book carries a wide variety of influences from many ages, races, ethnicities, educational philosophies, and political beliefs. It can offer a fresh perspective, maybe you’ve never considered.
