How to Choose a Doorway Jumper- Top 4!
Watching our kids grow up has truly been one of my greatest joys in life. Experiencing each age and stage is fun, and a new adventure. When they’ve physically reached the right stage of development, you’re ready to allow them the freedom to start moving around and having some new independence.
One of my favorite baby items I had for our growing toddler(s), that I didn’t know I would need, was our doorway baby jumper. I spent some time researching this type of baby gear because I wasn’t familiar with the different styles and safety features of doorway baby jumpers. Here are the things I learned when trying to figure out how to choose a doorway jumper.

How to Choose a Doorway Bouncer for Babies
Safety
The first, and most important, thing to take a look at when deciding to introduce a doorway baby bouncer is your child’s physical development.
Age and Weight Guidelines
Every doorway bouncer has its own set of age and weight recommendations. Your first consideration of how to choose a doorway bouncer should be to make sure your baby meets those safety guidelines.
Comfort
Naturally, you want your baby to enjoy hanging out in their doorway bouncer, so make sure you take a look at the straps. Babies come in all different shapes and sizes and the straps will fit each of them differently. If necessary, without compromising safety, could you add a cushion to the straps for added comfort if needed? Some doorway bouncers have no shoulder straps, and your baby simply sits down in the bouncer. (These are my favorite kind of doorway bouncer!)
Learning
Everyone has a different idea of how they plan to use their doorway baby bouncer. Is it a place for your baby to hang out safely while you get things done around your house, or is it important to you that there is some kind of stimulation for them while they bounce?
Physically they’ll be learning how to use their legs to bounce in the bouncer and turn themselves around. If you’re looking for intellectual stimulation, make sure toys are included with the doorway bouncer, or that there is a place you can attach toys for them to be able to learn while they bounce.
Movement
When shopping for a doorway baby bouncer, you need to have in mind where you plan to put it. It’s important to make sure your baby will have full 360-degree movement in the space so they won’t be knocking into anything. Most doorway bouncers come with padded sides to make sure they won’t “knock” into the doorway in a way that could be harmful.
Durability
As mentioned, it’s likely your baby will at some point learn how to knock themselves into the doorframe. This is ok. So long as you have placed the doorway bouncer in the center of the frame, it’s unlikely they would hit the frame hard enough to hurt themselves of the door frame. But, with that in mind, make sure you’re shopping for a doorway bouncer that is durable and isn’t going to break easily. This goes for both the seat and the part that attaches to the door frame.
Travel Needs
Another need to take into consideration when figuring out how to choose a doorway bouncer is your family’s travel needs. Will your doorway bouncer stay in place, or will it be traveling with you? If staying in place, this is much less of a factor to keep in mind. But, if you’re planning to take your doorway bouncer with you, you’ll want to make sure it’s easy to remove and place again.
Expense
Depending on your budget, doorway bouncers can be expensive. Thankfully, there are some budget-friendly doorway bouncers that are still great.
Entertainment
If you’re looking to keep your baby entertained while bouncing, make sure there is some kind of external stimuli for you baby. If placed near a wall, you can put up colorful posters, but if not, make sure you can place something on the bouncer for your baby’s entertainment.
Maintenance
I like things that are easy to use and maintain. If you’re like me, make sure you’ve checked that the baby bouncer you’ve selected has minimal maintenance. I liked being able to easily see the working parts of our doorway bouncer so that I could make sure it was working correctly each time I placed one of our kids inside the doorway bouncer.

My Personal Favorite Doorway Bouncer
My personal favorite doorway bouncer is the Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper. This is the doorway jumper that I have used with all of my kids. I love that it comes with a plastic tray, as well as foam bumper protection for when they hit the doorframe. The tray is easy to wipe clean. It comes with 2 removable, washable toys. I also added some personal toys to these clips. The seat is fabric and easy to remove and clean. The height of the doorway bouncer is easy to adjust to the needed height for your little one. The large plastic clip at the top is easy to attach to the doorframe as well.
